Independence Day of the Republic of Honduras (Día de la Independencia) is celebrated annually on September 15. This day is dedicated to the proclamation of the country’s independence from Spanish colonial rule in 1821.

History of the holiday
Honduras, together with Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, gained independence from Spain on September 15, 1821. This day became a symbol of freedom, national sovereignty, and self-determination. Since gaining independence, the National Holiday has become an important event, strengthening patriotism and the national identity of citizens.
